1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

• Account data: Username, email address, and hashed password when you register
• Financial data: Transactions, budgets, savings goals, debt information, and recurring transactions that you manually enter
• Payment data: Billing information processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number — Stripe handles all payment processing
• Communications: Messages you send to our support team

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Usage data: Pages visited, features used, and time spent on the Service
• Device data: Browser type, operating system, IP address, and device identifiers
• Cookies: Session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the BudgetFine Service
• Process payments and manage your subscription
• Power the AI Budget Assistant (your financial data is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate personalized responses)
• Send transactional emails (subscription confirmations, renewal reminders, security alerts)
• Respond to your support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud and abuse
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your financial data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal data to any third party.

3. Third-Party Services

BudgetFine uses the following third-party services:

• Stripe: Payment processing. Your payment information is subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy
• Google Gemini API: Powers the AI Budget Assistant. Financial data you discuss with the AI is processed by Google. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy
• DigitalOcean / VPS Provider: Hosting infrastructure. Your data is stored on servers in the United States

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a secured SQLite database on our server. We implement the following security measures:

• HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
• Passwords are hashed using industry-standard bcrypt — we never store plaintext passwords
• Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel only
• Regular security updates applied to server software

While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no system is 100% secure. Use the Service at your own risk.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

6. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: You can view your data in your account dashboard at any time
• Export: Pro users can export all transaction data as CSV
• Correction: You can update your profile information in Account Settings
• Deletion: You can request account deletion by contacting support@budgetfine.com
• Portability: You can export your data using the CSV export feature (Pro)

7. Children's Privacy

BudgetFine is not intended for children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or prominent notice within the Service. Your continued use of BudgetFine after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
